Former GIFEC CEO Applauds Ghana Work Abroad Program, Urges Fairness in Job Allocation
Former CEO of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Prince Sefah, has hailed the government’s launch of the Ghana Work Abroad Program as a timely solution to the country’s growing unemployment crisis.
However, he has cautioned against politicising the initiative, urging authorities to ensure that all qualified Ghanaian youth benefit, regardless of political affiliation.
Speaking on Hot FM’s Morning Drive hosted by Don. Kwabena Prah, Sefah emphasised that with unemployment rates rising, structured opportunities such as this should be welcomed and properly implemented.

He acknowledged that while the previous administration employed over 3.2 million youths, unemployment remains a pressing issue, making such interventions crucial.
His remarks follow the official launch of the Ghana Work Abroad Program by Minister of Labour, Jobs, and Employment, Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, in collaboration with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
The programme aims to provide young Ghanaians with safe and structured employment opportunities overseas, particularly in sectors like:
- Hospitality
- Construction
- Agriculture
- Transportation (drivers and logistics)
- Artisanship
Dr Pelpuo assured that the government would enforce strict oversight to guarantee fair treatment, safe working conditions, and legal protection for participants through bilateral agreements with host countries.
Prince Sefah, while praising the initiative, warned against political favouritism. He referenced comments from certain government appointees suggesting job placements might be reserved for party loyalists, calling such remarks “unfortunate and unfair.”
He stressed that employment opportunities should be distributed based on merit rather than political affiliation.
“This is not the time to play politics with people’s livelihoods. Every qualified Ghanaian youth deserves an opportunity,” Sefah asserted.
