The wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was a pioneering advocate for women’s empowerment, a founding member of the 31st December Women’s Movement, and later the founder and leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP) after her exit from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Her contributions to Ghana’s political and social development earned her respect across the political divide.

In her final months, she maintained an active public presence. She was among the dignitaries who laid wreaths at the Forecourt of the Jubilee House in honour of eight public servants who died in a helicopter crash. She also attended the Dote Yie funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, in Kumasi, accompanied by her children Amina and Kimathi Agyeman-Rawlings, where they paid their respects to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Asante royal family.

Her passing comes nearly five years after the death of her husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings, who died on November 12, 2020, aged 73.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings will be remembered as a trailblazer, a bold reformer, and a champion of women’s rights whose influence reshaped Ghana’s political history.
