A tragic accident at Wakrom Junction near Yamoransa on the Cape Coast–Accra Highway has left five people dead and 12 others injured, the Central Regional Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.
According to a statement signed by DO II Wasiu Abdul Hudu, Public Relations Officer of the Central Regional GNFS, the crash occurred at about 2:45 p.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025.
The accident involved a DAF truck (AW 9548-13) loaded with 700 bags of rice and a Toyota Hiace passenger vehicle (GC 9728-21).
A GNFS rescue team dispatched from the Central Regional Headquarters arrived at 2:59 p.m. and quickly began extrication operations.
“Five victims were pulled from the wreckage. Sadly, four were later pronounced dead at the hospital, while one remains in critical condition,” the statement said.
Prior to the team’s arrival, 12 passengers had already been rescued and sent to nearby hospitals, but tragically, one of them died on admission.
The driver and mate of the DAF truck escaped unhurt.
In total, the accident has resulted in 17 casualties: five confirmed dead and 12 injured, who are currently receiving medical attention.
The incident caused heavy traffic along the busy highway as emergency services worked to save lives and clear the wreckage. Authorities have since advised motorists using that stretch to exercise extra caution.
