The Government of Ghana has announced a 62.58% increase in the cocoa producer price for the 2025/26 season, setting the new rate at US$5,040 per tonne — up from US$3,100 in the previous season.
In cedi terms, the adjustment moves the price from GH¢49,600 to GH¢51,660 per tonne, translating to GH¢3,228.75 per 64 kg bag.
The new price, approved by the Producer Price Review Committee chaired by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, will take effect from Thursday, August 7, 2025.

In announcing the increment, the Minister for Food and Agriculture compared the current administration’s move to the record of the previous NPP government, stating that in the 2024/25 season, the then-government paid just US$3,100 per tonne, which he said represented 63.9% of the FOB value of US$4,850.
“This government is committed to giving cocoa farmers a fairer share of the international market price than what they received under the previous administration,” the minister declared.
However, cocoa farmers and industry stakeholders argue that while the increase appears substantial on paper, it falls short of expectations — particularly in light of campaign promises and rising production costs.
Some farmers recall that leading figures in the current government previously pledged to pay GH¢6,000 per bag, with other political figures even suggesting a potential GH¢7,000 payout. The reality, they say, is far lower than what was promised.
Farmer Emmanuel Nodjo expressed disappointment, saying the figures do not match the economic pressures cocoa growers face.
“The new price is better than before, but it’s not what we were promised and not what will sustain us,” he said.
Industry analysts note that while the 62.58% jump narrows the gap between farmgate prices and the international FOB value, farmers’ share remains constrained by volatile market conditions, currency fluctuations, and operational costs.
