Ghanaian music sensation Black Sherif has made history by becoming the first artist from Ghana to achieve over 500 million streams on Boomplay, a leading digital music platform.
Boomplay announced this remarkable milestone in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “KILOS MILLIONS! Special congratulations to Iron Boy, the pacesetter, @blacksherif_, and fans for hitting a record of 500 million total streams on #Boomplay.”
Reacting to the news, Black Sherif, whose real name is Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong, expressed his deep gratitude to his fans, saying, “This is a dream come true. I am beyond grateful for the love and support from my fans, both in Ghana and around the world. This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to share more music with you all.”
Black Sherif shot to fame in 2021 with his breakout single, “First Sermon,” followed by “Second Sermon,” which cemented his reputation as one of Ghana’s rising stars. His swift rise to fame has been accompanied by a string of successful releases, each gaining massive popularity.
In addition to his streaming milestone, Black Sherif has been recognised with several awards, including the 2023 Telecel Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year and the reigning 3 Music Awards Artiste of the Year. He also won the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards “Best International Flow,” becoming only the second African artist to receive this honour, following in the footsteps of Sarkodie.
