ASA Savings and Loans HR Manager Applauds Mahama for Historic Female Vice President Appointment

The Human Resource Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, Madam Eunice Boadu, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his decisive appointment of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang as his running mate in the 2024 elections, a decision that has led to Ghana having its first female Vice President.

Expressing her joy as a woman, Madam Boadu stated that Mahama’s choice has been impactful, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s political history.

She acknowledged that although the president had pledged to appoint 30% of women to his cabinet—a promise yet to be fully realised—his decision to select a female running mate, who now holds the second-highest office in the country, is a major step toward gender inclusion.

Madam Boadu also addressed the passage of the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Act, which was officially enacted by Parliament on July 30, 2024. The legislation is aimed at correcting historical gender imbalances and challenging deep-seated patriarchal structures in Ghana.

While she welcomed the bill’s passage, she emphasised that leadership roles should not be granted based solely on gender but on merit and competence.

She stressed the importance of ensuring that women appointed to leadership positions are deserving and capable of driving national progress.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Puretvonline.com, Madam Boadu urged President Mahama to consider reshuffling his appointees in the future to include more women in key government positions.

She believes increased female representation will strengthen Ghana’s governance and contribute to sustainable national development.

As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, she also encouraged women to uplift and support one another rather than engage in jealousy and rivalry.

She believes that by fostering unity among women, greater opportunities for empowerment and leadership will emerge.

“It’s time for women to abandon envy and unnecessary competition. When we support each other, we open doors for greater achievements and advancement,” she stated.

Madam Eunice Boadu remains hopeful that Ghana will continue to embrace gender equality and create more opportunities for women to thrive in leadership roles.
