A man identified as Balenbogma, believed to be in his 50s, has been shot dead by armed robbers on the Bole-Bamboi highway, while his son, in his 20s, is battling for his life following a brutal attack at Taselema, a community along the Techiman-Wa route.
The horrifying incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. as the victims were travelling from Sunyani to Lawra to attend the burial of their late mother. Eyewitnesses say the unsuspecting family ran into an armed robbery ambush, a situation that has become increasingly common along the poorly maintained road.
Commercial drivers who narrowly escaped the scene told Adom News that the robbers have turned the degraded stretch into a hunting ground, exploiting the poor road conditions to target travellers. They disclosed that such attacks have become frequent, with some involving sexual assaults on female passengers.

“This is not the first time. They [the robbers] know the road is bad, so they hide and strike when vehicles slow down,” one driver said.
The deceased’s body has been deposited at the Taselema Polyclinic mortuary, while his son, who sustained gunshot wounds, is receiving treatment at the same facility.
Residents and commuters are calling on the government to immediately rehabilitate the road and boost security patrols along the stretch. They say urgent intervention is needed to prevent further bloodshed and restore confidence in travel through the corridor.
“The government must fix this road and ensure police visibility,” a resident stated. “We cannot continue living in fear.”
