“Answer the Call and Walk in Power” — Pastor John Gilbert Ayamah Urges Believers
Mpoasei District Pastor inspires congregation to embrace and fulfil their divine assignments.
The Mpoasei District Pastor of The Church of Pentecost, Pastor John Gilbert Ayamah, has delivered a stirring sermon at the Upper Room Assembly, Dansoman–Accra, calling on believers to fully embrace and fulfil their divine calling with faith, obedience, and power.
Preaching on the theme “Fulfilling Your Calling”, Pastor Ayamah anchored his message on Matthew 10:1 and Acts 13:2, emphasising that “the calling we have received is not a human call, but a divine one.”
“When Jesus called His disciples, He didn’t just send them out—He gave them power and authority,” he declared. “In the same way, God never calls a person without equipping them for the task.”

Pastor Ayamah explained that after calling His disciples, Jesus gave them specific instructions (Matthew 10:5–11), highlighting that every divine calling is accompanied by clear direction and purpose.
“The purpose of God’s call is to reach the lost sheep and bring them back to Him. When God calls, He also provides. He equips us with what we need to carry out His assignment,” he noted.
He further pointed out that those who respond to God’s call carry His blessings wherever they go, just as Jesus instructed His disciples to bless every home they entered (Matthew 10:13).
While acknowledging the blessings associated with divine calling, Pastor Ayamah cautioned believers to be vigilant, quoting Matthew 10:16:
“Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.”
He stressed that a divine call comes with both blessings and responsibilities, urging Christians to remain discerning, humble, and gentle as they serve.
“Our calling gives us the privilege to proclaim the gospel even before kings and rulers,” he added, citing Matthew 10:18–20. “Though challenges and persecution may arise, we must not be afraid, for the Spirit of the Father will speak through us. Those who endure to the end will be saved.”
Pastor Ayamah outlined two types of divine calling:
- The General Calling: God has called all believers and set them apart for His purpose.
- The Special Calling: As seen in Acts 13 and Ephesians 4:11, God specifically calls some into roles such as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers to equip the church.
He reminded the congregation that before anyone is sent, there must first be a special call, which requires humility and a willingness to be shaped by God (2 Timothy 1:9).
Concluding his sermon, Pastor Ayamah encouraged believers to seek God’s presence continually, understand their calling (Ephesians 2:10), and serve faithfully with their gifts (1 Peter 4:10).
“Do not run away from your calling,” he urged. “When God calls, He empowers you to do what you could not do before. Embrace your calling wholeheartedly and let your life proclaim the gospel of Christ.”
He ended with the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19, charging the congregation to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
