Ambulance case: Asiedu Nketiah demands AG be sacked and prosecuted

In light of grave accusations of wrongdoing, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has demanded the immediate resignation or removal of Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice.

The requests come after a 16-minute audio tape was made public, which the party claims show Mr. Dame was involved in a plot to sway the court case against Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader.

According to the tape, Godfred Dame is heard giving third accused Richard Jakpa advice on what to say in court and giving him directions on how to destroy the Minority Leader.

The NDC is now questioning Mr. Dame’s eligibility for both his position as Attorney General and as the head of the Ghana Bar as a result of this development.

“Considering the scandalous nature of this recording and other forms of evidence we have shown you; we wish to make the following pressing demands as part of the efforts to restore credibility to the Attorney General’s Office and Ghana’s judicial system,” National Chairman John Asiedu Nketiah stated at a press conference on Tuesday, May 28.

“The prompt and complete resignation or removal of Godfred Dame for tarnishing the reputation and public disfavor of the esteemed positions of Attorney General and Minister of Justice. It is obvious that Mr. Dame is unfit to serve as both the minister of justice and the attorney general. “He’s not qualified to lead the Ghana bar,” he declared.

In addition, the NDC demanded that Godfred Dame be prosecuted immediately for allegedly breaking Ghanaian law, threatening legal action from an NDC-led administration if President Akufo-Addo did not comply.

The NDC has also suggested a publicly televised parliamentary investigation into these claims and other reports of Godfred Dame’s judicial manipulations in an effort to censure him and stop such judicial manipulation from happening again. The party also wants the General Legal Counsel to take disciplinary action against Mr. Dame.

“Godfred Dame should be prosecuted right away for repeatedly breaking Ghanaian laws. We want it known that the future NDC government will prosecute Godfred Dame for this horrible crime of fabricating evidence, should President Akufo-Addo choose not to prosecute him or refuse to do so.

“Godfred Dame faces disciplinary action from the General Legal Counsel and will be disbarred for behavior that is unacceptable for a lawyer and, more significantly, as the head of the Ghanaian bar.

“The goal of a publicly broadcast parliamentary investigation into this and other allegations of Godfred Dame’s judicial manipulations is to alert him to the need to stop such judicial manipulation from happening in the future,” he stated.
