Kwabena Ampong, popularly known as Great Ampong, a member of the National Communications Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has admitted that successive governments have disappointed Ghanaians in the area of infrastructure as the country marks its 69th independence anniversary.
Speaking during a panel discussion on the Hot FM Morning Drive hosted by Oman Nana, Ampong acknowledged that governments over the years had fallen short of expectations in delivering adequate infrastructure for the country.
However, he argued that while multiple administrations share the blame, the NDC has contributed the greater share of major social interventions and infrastructure projects across Ghana.

According to him, political rivalry has often led members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to downplay the achievements of NDC governments while claiming credit for projects they did not initiate.
“When you look at the majority of social interventions and infrastructure in this country, the greater percentage was done by the NDC government,” he said.
Ampong maintained that political discourse in the country sometimes distorts facts, leading to confusion among the public about which government initiated or completed certain projects.
He further criticised the NPP for what he described as its inability to deliver effectively when it was in power.
According to him, several projects attributed to the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo were originally initiated by the administration of the current president, John Dramani Mahama.
“Everything the former president achieved was started by our current president, John Dramani Mahama,” he claimed.
He urged Ghanaians to scrutinise the projects the NPP claims to have completed, insisting that many of them were started by the Mahama administration and later finished under his leadership.
“The things they couldn’t finish, we, the NDC, came to complete, and we are doing a lot more too,” Ampong added.
He also called for greater honesty in national conversations about development, stressing that political differences should not obscure the reality of the country’s progress and challenges.
“We shouldn’t shift everything into politics; we must try to say the reality of how things are,” he said.
As Ghana marked its Independence Day on March 6, Ampong urged members of the NPP and other critics to reconsider their views about President Mahama’s leadership.
According to him, the current administration is demonstrating strong leadership and delivering positive results for the country.
“Everything shows Mahama is a good president and things are going on well now,” he said.
