Ghana’s security and cybercrime enforcement agencies have launched a major crackdown on organised cybercrime networks, arresting 141 suspects in a coordinated early-morning operation in Tabora and Lashibi, Accra.
The operation, led by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, National Security, and the Ghana Immigration Service Headquarters, targeted syndicates allegedly involved in Mobile Money (MoMo) fraud and Business Email Compromise (BEC) scams.

Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Sam George Nartey, disclosed the details in a Facebook post on Tuesday, describing the exercise as an intelligence-led intervention aimed at dismantling sophisticated cybercrime rings operating within the country.
According to the minister, 100 suspects were arrested in Tabora, while 41 others were apprehended in Lashibi, bringing the total number of arrests to 141. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects are believed to be Nigerian nationals.
Security operatives also recovered 38 laptops and 150 mobile phones, which are suspected to have been used in the commission of various cyber-enabled financial crimes. Forensic analysis of the seized devices is currently underway to establish the full extent of the criminal activities and identify all individuals involved.

In a significant development, the operation also led to the arrest of a Ghanaian landlord who allegedly provided accommodation for 100 of the suspects. Hon. Sam George stressed that property owners have a responsibility to ensure their premises are not used to facilitate criminal activities.
The suspects are alleged to have been involved in a range of cybercrimes, including MoMo fraud, romance scams, sextortion, Business Email Compromise (BEC), and wire fraud.
The minister assured the public that all individuals found culpable will be processed in accordance with Ghanaian law, adding that the government remains resolute in protecting the country’s digital and financial ecosystem.

He urged the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious online activities, and support national efforts to combat cybercrime.
“Ghana remains welcoming to all friends and neighbours interested in legitimate enterprise,” Hon. Sam George stated. “However, if you are interested in committing cybercrime, we will find you, arrest you, and deal with you decisively according to our laws.”
The operation marks one of the most significant cybercrime enforcement actions in recent times, underscoring Ghana’s commitment to safeguarding its digital space and maintaining public trust in electronic financial systems.
