Telecel Group Partners Government to Train 100,000 Youth Under One Million Coders Programme

Telecel Group has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations to support the government’s flagship One Million Coders Programme, a nationwide digital skills initiative launched earlier this year by President John Mahama.

The agreement cements Telecel’s commitment to providing free access to its Startocode learning platform, with the aim of training 100,000 young Ghanaians over the next four years.

The initiative is expected to accelerate Ghana’s digital transformation and open new pathways for youth participation in the global digital economy.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, the CEO of Telecel Group, Moh Damush, said the partnership reflects Telecel’s mission to promote a digitally connected Africa.

“Aligning with the One Million Coders initiative will help us equip tens of thousands of young people with essential digital and coding skills for Ghana’s growing digital economy. More importantly, it empowers the country to lead the future of the digital ecosystem that is already reshaping Africa,” he said.

Startocode, developed by Telecel Group, is a self-paced, multilingual digital learning platform offering interactive lessons and hands-on projects to build practical, job-ready skills. The platform has already trained thousands of learners across Africa, particularly in underserved communities, by providing accessible coding and digital literacy education.

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, commended the partnership, describing it as a crucial step toward bridging Ghana’s digital skills gap.

“The One Million Coders Programme is about unlocking digital potential and creating career pathways for our youth. We are proud to collaborate with forward-thinking partners like Telecel, who share our vision of inclusive digital empowerment,” he said.

Under the MoU, trainees in the One Million Coders Programme will receive access to Startocode courses covering web development, Python programming, data analytics, and digital entrepreneurship. The collaboration will also enable mentorship, peer support, and skills development communities to enhance long-term career growth.

The partnership reinforces Telecel Group’s broader commitment to digital education, health development, and environmental sustainability across its markets in Africa.

The agreement marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s ongoing efforts to build a future-ready digital economy, ensuring that no Ghanaian is left behind in the evolving technology landscape.
