The Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association has announced plans to stage a major protest over what it calls the government’s persistent delay in posting its members, some of whom have remained at home for up to five years after completing their training.
A demonstration scheduled for this week was suspended after the association was unable to conclude security arrangements with the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.
However, leaders say the postponement is temporary and vow to continue mounting pressure on authorities.

Frustration continues to deepen among affected graduates.
Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, Gamal Osman, who completed his training in 2021, expressed the emotional and financial strain the prolonged unemployment has caused.
“I have been in the house for four years. I completed school in 2021. We are all stranded. Remember, completing school and depending on someone is not easy. How to even buy water is not easy,” he lamented.
The association says it will pursue all lawful means to demand immediate postings, insisting that the government must prioritise the deployment of qualified nurses and midwives as the health sector continues to face staffing shortages.
