The Ghana Police Service in the Northern Region has rescued a kidnap victim in Wapuli, within the Yendi Division, following a swift, intelligence-led operation that unfolded over several days.
According to a Northern Regional situation report, the incident was first reported to the Tamale Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (TRPID) on December 2, 2025, around 9:30 a.m., after kidnappers demanded GH₵100,000 from the victim’s family for his release.

Responding decisively, the Northern Regional Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, deployed a five-member intelligence team from the Tamale RPID to Wapuli to mount surveillance and execute a coordinated rescue mission.
After days of tactical monitoring, the team successfully rescued the victim on December 5.

However, at about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, officers encountered the armed suspects, leading to a brief gun battle. The kidnappers managed to escape into the bush but abandoned critical items, including a motorbike with registration M 25 NR and a Samsung mobile phone, both retrieved as exhibits.
Later that morning, police intensified their pursuit and intercepted three suspects at Bokpaba along the Bimbila–Yendi road. They were identified as:
- Haruna Seidu, 31
- Amidu Bandi, 30
- Osman Bandi, 40
Officers also retrieved GH₵70,000, believed to be part of the ransom money, and two motorbikes.
One suspect, however, remains at large.

“He is considered armed and dangerous, and the Intel team is actively pursuing him to effect his arrest. Further developments will be communicated,” the report concluded.

The police have assured the public of continued vigilance and urged citizens to provide any relevant information that could aid in the arrest of the remaining suspect.
