Aggrieved Teachers Threaten Demo Sept 30 Over 12-Month Salary Arrears

The Aggrieved Newly Posted Teachers group has given the government a one-week ultimatum to address their grievances over the non-payment of salaries, warning that they will hit the streets in protest if their concerns are not resolved.

The group, made up of graduates from colleges of education and universities, says some of its members have gone 12 months without pay, while others have been left unpaid for eight months, despite being officially posted to classrooms across the country.

According to the group, its initial deadline of September 23 has lapsed without any response, forcing them to extend it by another week.

In an interview with Citi News, the group’s Lead Convener, Simon Kofi Nartey, expressed disappointment at what he described as the government’s silence despite repeated petitions.

“It is rather unfortunate that as we speak, nothing has been done about the concerns we raised at our press conference. We have no option but to take to the streets to let Ghanaians know what is happening. We have already met with the Greater Accra Regional Police Command and agreed on September 30 for the demonstration,” he said.

The teachers say they formally petitioned the Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities on September 8, but no “meaningful response” has been received.

With the planned protest date now set for September 30, 2025, the group insists that unless the government acts swiftly to resolve the salary arrears, their only option will be to mobilise nationwide demonstrations to draw attention to their plight.

The ultimatum adds to mounting pressure on the government over labour concerns in the education sector, which observers say could disrupt teaching and learning if left unaddressed.
