Deputy Energy and Green Transition Minister-Designate Richard Gyan-Mensah has denied claims that Ghana is facing a return of the severe power outages known as ‘dumsor.’
Speaking before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Gyan-Mensah admitted that some areas have experienced power cuts but insisted that these are not signs of a nationwide power crisis.
“Dumsor is not back,” he assured. “We all remember what it was like when there were scheduled power cuts for long hours. What we are seeing now is different. Yes, some places have had power go off, but that does not mean we are in a ‘dumsor’ situation.”

He explained that the recent power interruptions are due to maintenance work on power plants and assured Ghanaians that the situation will improve once the work is completed.
The minister-designate reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing stable electricity and preventing the return of ‘dumsor.’
