Parliament will enforce heightened security protocols on Thursday, February 27, 2025, during President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has announced.
The measures come ahead of what is expected to be a frank assessment of Ghana’s economic state and the government’s development agenda, as outlined by Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications.
- MPs must be seated by 9:15 AM; once the President enters, National Security will block access to the chamber.
- No unauthorised persons allowed; MPs cannot bring guests into the chamber.
- Speaker’s lobby access is limited to deputy speakers and parliamentary leaders.
- Majority side doors will be locked; MPs must exit through the minority side or the division room.

“Once His Excellency enters the chamber, National Security will not allow any latecomers inside. After 9:15 AM, access will be restricted,” Ayariga cautioned.
With intensified security and rising political tensions, all eyes will be on Mahama’s address, which could set the tone for Ghana’s governance in the coming months.
