VIDEO: Rev. Ntim Fordjour Urges Mitigation in 2025 Budget Over USAID Shutdown

Former Deputy Education Minister Rev. John Ntim Fordjour has urged the government to incorporate measures in the 2025 budget to address the economic impact of the recent shutdown of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) programs in Ghana.

In a post on X on Friday, February 14, Rev. Fordjour emphasised the need for resilient domestic strategies to counteract potential setbacks stemming from this development.

He highlighted the importance of proactive policymaking to sustain key sectors that may be affected by the withdrawal of USAID support.

“I joined my colleagues in Parliament to make the point for resilient domestic measures to offset the potential impact that the USAID shutdown may exact on our economy,” he stated.

His remarks reflect growing concerns over the economic implications of reduced foreign aid, particularly in crucial areas such as education, healthcare, and agriculture.

Rev. Fordjour further urged policymakers to prioritise alternative funding sources and strengthen Ghana’s self-reliance in critical sectors. He stressed the urgency of swift government action to cushion the most vulnerable groups who stand to be affected by funding gaps left by USAID’s exit.

“This is a moment for us to reinforce our domestic capacity and ensure that vital services continue uninterrupted,” he added.

As discussions on the 2025 budget approach, stakeholders will be keen to see how the government addresses these concerns to safeguard national development efforts.
