Majority Chief Whip Roackson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has denied allegations of engaging in a physical altercation during the recent vetting chaos, stating that his actions were solely aimed at restoring order.
Dafeamekpor’s response follows claims that he was involved in a fight with former Deputy Minister of Transport and Member of Parliament (MP) for Gushegu, Alhassan Tampuli, during the proceedings on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
Speaking before the special committee investigating the vetting disturbances in Accra on Monday, February 10, Dafeamekpor firmly dismissed the allegations. “I don’t recall ever holding his dress at all. It would have led to something else because I am also strong enough. If I had held his dress, it would have led to something else. I had my two hands up; he held the front of my fugu this way. I had my hands up, and I was exchanging words,” he explained.

He further recounted that he attempted to de-escalate the situation, telling Tampuli, “Oh bro, why do you want us to fight over this? We are lawyers; we are custodians; we don’t do this.” He added that Tampuli eventually smiled and released his fugu, reinforcing his claim that no fight took place.
Dafeamekpor emphasised that his sole interest was in ensuring order. “At all, I was never interested [in conflict]. If I initiate anything, I will lose the opportunity of having my proceedings continued. So I was interested in having order restored,” he clarified.
Additionally, he stated that he intervened to assist MP for Tano South, Charles Asiedu, who was caught in Tampuli’s grip.
Reflecting on the broader situation, Dafeamekpor suggested that the chaos stemmed from the minority’s efforts to halt parliamentary business on that day. “No, I didn’t fight. They (the minority) were interested in not getting any business done that day. Perhaps because I had come to take Asiedu out of his grips, he didn’t like the idea. But I am making the point that eventually, he smiled at me and let go of the fugu, so it was not a fight at all,” he reiterated.
The special committee is expected to continue its investigations into the vetting disruptions, with further testimonies anticipated in the coming days.
