Ghana Water Limited Appoints Hon. Adam Mutawakilu as Acting Managing Director

Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced the appointment of Hon. Adam Mutawakilu as the Acting Managing Director of the company.

The appointment, made by President John Dramani Mahama, is in accordance with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. Hon. Mutawakilu will serve in this role pending approval from the GWL Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

In his first address to the GWL staff, Hon. Mutawakilu expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead and reaffirmed his commitment to working collaboratively with all stakeholders. He emphasised GWL’s vital role in providing quality and uninterrupted water supply, particularly to underserved and unserved areas across the country.

Although he acknowledged his limited experience in water management, Hon. Mutawakilu highlighted his expertise in energy, finance, and governance, areas in which he plans to leverage his skills while learning from the experienced professionals at GWL.

“The collective efforts of management and staff will be critical in achieving the president’s vision and ensuring no community is left behind in accessing potable water,” he said.

Hon. Mutawakilu holds multiple degrees, including an MSc in Development Finance from the University of Ghana, an MSc in Energy Economics from GIMPA, and an MPhil in Petroleum and Oil Studies from the University of Cape Coast.

He also earned a Commonwealth Executive Master’s in Business Administration from KNUST and an Executive Certificate in Governance and Leadership from the Ghana School of Governance and Leadership.

Before his appointment, Hon. Mutawakilu served as the first Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency from 2013 to 2020 and was a ranking member of the Mines and Energy Committee.

He has also held key roles as District Chief Executive for the West Gonja District and Head of Treasury at the University for Development Studies (UDS).

GWL expressed its full support for Hon. Mutawakilu and remains committed to delivering sustainable and reliable water supply across Ghana. The company aims to implement innovative solutions and strengthen its services to meet the evolving needs of Ghanaians, ensuring alignment with the president’s vision for the water sector.
