Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister-designate, has pledged to use his active presence on social media platforms as a tool to foster good governance, youth engagement, and development in the region.
Speaking during his vetting on Monday, January 27, 2025, Mr. Amoakohene highlighted the growing importance of social media as a modern avenue for community engagement.
He assured the Appointments Committee that if approved, he would use these platforms strategically to promote government policies and remain accessible to the youth.
Reflecting on how community interactions have evolved over time, Mr. Amoakohene acknowledged the shift from traditional communal spaces to digital platforms.
“In times past, when I was young, my father would send me to the community centre, where they go to play ‘Ludo,’ ‘Dame,’ among others. In recent times, those centres do not exist. There’s a new society known as social media, where we get the opportunity to share ideas and also to interact,” he noted.
The nominee underscored his intention to adapt to this new dynamic by using social media as a bridge to connect with the people of the region, particularly the youth.
Mr. Amoakohene assured the committee that his social media presence would not overshadow traditional governance methods but rather complement them. He explained that the platforms would allow the youth to reach him directly, with a dedicated team ensuring swift responses and attention to their concerns.
“I want to assure the house that I’m not going to overly rely on social media. However, the platforms will be available so that the youth who would want to reach me can still send a message, and there will be a team there who will look at the messages and draw my attention, in order that I will be able to assist them when need be,” he stated.
The ministerial nominee emphasised that his active participation on social media has helped him better understand the needs and aspirations of the youth. By maintaining this approach, he hopes to encourage more young people to contribute to the region’s development.
