Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum Congratulates Sakafia Islamic Senior High School on Zayed Sustainability Prize Win
The former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for the Bosomtwe Constituency, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has expressed immense pride and joy in congratulating Sakafia Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi for being awarded the prestigious 2025 Zayed Sustainability Prize in the Global High Schools category for Sub-Saharan Africa.
In a heartfelt post on his official Facebook page, Dr. Adutwum celebrated the school’s exceptional achievement, which was recognised during a ceremony held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The award comes with a cash prize of USD $150,000, underscoring the importance of the school’s innovative aquaponics project.
Sakafia Islamic Senior High School’s pioneering initiative focuses on addressing food insecurity through sustainable agricultural practices. The aquaponics project, which combines aquaculture and hydroponics to grow food in a controlled, sustainable environment, not only contributes to food security but also promotes environmental conservation. Dr. Adutwum commended the project as a clear demonstration of how education can play a critical role in creating positive change in the environment and society.
“This remarkable achievement is proof of the dedication, creativity, and forward-thinking mindset of both the students and faculty of this esteemed institution,” Dr. Adutwum wrote. “The commitment to sustainability and the environment displayed by Sakafia Islamic Senior High School is a shining example for schools across the country and beyond.”
