66 Ghanaians Rescued from Human Trafficking Ring in Nigeria — CID Blows Alarm on QNET Scam

The Ghana Police Service has uncovered a disturbing surge in human trafficking cases involving young Ghanaians being deceived and trapped in exploitative conditions across the ECOWAS region.

At a press conference in Accra, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, revealed that 66 victims—linked to a trafficking syndicate operating under the QNET network—were rescued in Nigeria between May 19 and June 27, 2025, with assistance from Interpol.

“The victims were mostly youths lured with false promises of lucrative job offers and football academy slots abroad,” said DCOP Donkor. “On arrival, their documents were seized, and they were subjected to restricted movement and exploitative conditions.”

The police describe the situation as a growing threat, with traffickers using elaborate lies and coercion to lure unsuspecting individuals into modern-day slavery. Most victims were denied access to communication and held under tight control.

DCOP Donkor urged families to remain vigilant and verify overseas opportunities before allowing loved ones to travel, especially in response to offers that appear too good to be true.

“These criminals are highly deceptive. Anyone found complicit in such trafficking networks will face the full rigours of the law,” she cautioned.

The CID has vowed to intensify investigations, clamp down on recruitment fronts used by trafficking rings, and enhance cross-border collaboration to disrupt such operations.
