A 21-year-old mobile money vendor, Desmond Adzah, was tragically shot and killed by suspected armed robbers on Wednesday evening, July 9, at Quarters Junction in Ngleshie Amanfro, sparking renewed calls for heightened security in the Ga South Municipality.
Desmond, a well-known and trusted mobile money vendor in the community, was reportedly ambushed around 7:00 p.m. while returning home from his shop. Eyewitnesses say he was shot multiple times by unidentified gunmen and rushed to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic, where he later died while receiving treatment.
According to Ruben Kumor, an eyewitness and resident who spoke to Citi News, Desmond was widely known and relied upon by residents at the junction for his financial services.

“Desmond is known to all of us at the junction. Almost everyone relies on him for his services. Just after he had closed for the day, I met him and asked to withdraw GHC150, but he told me he was short on cash,” Kumor recounted.
Shortly after parting ways, Kumor said he heard gunshots. “A woman nearby tried to rush to the scene, but children stopped her. Moments later, someone came to tell me Desmond was the one shot,” he added.
Residents expressed deep concern about growing insecurity in the area, especially the lack of night patrols despite the presence of a nearby police station. Kumor called for urgent intervention.
“Even if they could assign community police—the ‘baby police,’ as we call them—to patrol, it would help. Desmond was attacked just after closing his shop. This shouldn’t happen,” he said.
The victim’s sister, Erica Adzah, believes Desmond may have been deliberately trailed and targeted by people he knew.
“This shooting incident is not random. From what we’re hearing, he was followed and possibly targeted by people he knew. Some even believe the suspects were his friends. After shooting him, they took his bag. But because he had seen their faces, they killed him,” she said.
She revealed that Desmond tried to run to their family home for help, but gunfire kept relatives from stepping outside. “This needs serious investigation. Motorcycle crimes are becoming too common. It’s time the government takes this seriously and acts to protect innocent people,” she pleaded.
The incident has sparked outrage and fear among residents, with many calling for a swift and thorough police investigation and improved security measures in the area.
Local leaders and concerned citizens are urging law enforcement to:
- Deploy regular night patrols
- Increase community policing
- Clamp down on motorcycle-related crimes
As of now, police have not issued an official statement regarding arrests or suspects.
