Twenty Ghanaians — 10 males and 10 females — have been rescued from a suspected human trafficking ring in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command confirmed the operation in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 20, by its spokesperson, DSP Timfon John.
According to the statement, the rescue followed a formal request for assistance from the Ghana Police Service and INTERPOL, after credible intelligence revealed that the victims were being held in a heavily fenced compound at Obio Etoi village in Uyo Local Government Area.

“On August 18, 2025, operatives of the command successfully rescued 20 Ghanaians trafficked to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The operation was a collaborative effort with the Ghana Police Service and INTERPOL,” the statement read.
Police operatives stormed the compound around 4:17 pm on Monday, August 18, leading to the successful rescue of the victims, whose names have been withheld.
DSP John disclosed that the rescued individuals appeared disoriented and unable to provide useful information, raising suspicions that they may have been hypnotised by their traffickers.
“The victims presently appear disoriented and have been unable to provide useful information, leading investigators to suspect they might have been hypnotised,” the statement added.
The police command assured that investigations into the matter are ongoing and pledged to provide further updates as the case develops.
