Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, has issued a stern warning to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to avoid arrogance as the party prepares to assume power in January 2025.
Speaking at the 43rd-anniversary celebration of the 31st December Revolution, Dr. Zanetor stressed that any display of pride and hubris would lead to the party’s downfall, urging the NDC to remain humble and uphold the values that have defined its identity.
“We must not allow arrogance, pride, and hubris to fill our hearts because of this victory, as that will be the beginning of our downfall,” Dr. Zanetor cautioned party members as they celebrated the anniversary of the revolution that laid the foundation for Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
The daughter of the late Jerry John Rawlings, the founder of the NDC, called on her party’s rank and file to preserve the integrity of the party and stay committed to the principles of the revolution.
She emphasised that these values, which contributed significantly to Ghana’s democracy, must continue to guide the party as it prepares to govern.
“We must maintain humility, we must maintain integrity, and we must uphold the principles on which the revolution was founded, which finally gave birth to this Fourth Republic that we are now striving to restore,” Dr. Zanetor said.
Reflecting on the historical importance of the December 31st Revolution, Dr. Zanetor stated that Ghana would likely have descended into conflict if her father and the NDC had not laid the strong democratic foundations that continue to hold the nation together today.
“If the foundation on which this Fourth Republic was built was not strong enough, believe me, Ghana would have descended into chaos by now,” she noted.
As the NDC prepares to take office after its decisive win in the December 7 elections, Dr. Zanetor called on the incoming government to preserve the party’s legacy and ensure that Ghana’s democracy remains intact.
She urged the new administration to remain focused on the values that have shaped the nation’s success.
