The General Secretary of National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Kwetey has stated that the party will maintain its vigilance prior to, during, and beyond the general elections in 2024.
He said that even though the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in power, is widely despised for leading the nation into difficulties, it will do whatever it takes to stay in power.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, Mr. Kwetey stated that the NDC cannot be indifferent to the current state of the economy and believe that popular unhappiness and the current economic crisis will inevitably result in an electoral win in December’s elections.
“It’s normal in politics sometimes to see a level of frustration, anger, disappointment, the economic meltdown, and suffering that is going on and assume that somehow that is going to be enough for you to win an election.”
“But I can tell you that for many of us who wrestled to take the NPP out of power the last time they were in power, we know that you are never complacent, especially when you’re dealing with a desperate political party. This particular political party we are dealing with here is literally an entity that cares about nothing but power,” he noted.
Mr. Kwetey described the NPP as power-hungry and claimed that, despite their long wait to take office, the party has failed to rule the people, saying that “[they] have no principles, no conditions, just do anything for power.”
He cautioned NDC members not to underestimate the NPP’s desperation, pointing out that they are supposedly prepared to use any tactic, including tampering with elections, to stay in power.
“So if there’s any group that thinks that it’s going to be easy to take out these very desperate people, especially after they have spent eight years, eight years that they have profited, corrupted the system, made all kinds of money, totally destroyed the economy, and they are afraid that they are going to be prosecuted,”
“There is much greater desperation. Given the desperation this political party is experiencing, I’m truly shocked that anyone would believe that a deal is finalised, stated the General Secretary of the NDC.
He asked party members not to get sidetracked by possible successes in the future and to stay committed to making sure the NDC wins the general elections in 2024.
“You must ensure that you remain focused and disregard the challenges the economy is facing; don’t think that this will bring you success on its own. Mr. Kwetey said, “Remain focused, and let’s make sure we cross the line.”
