President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to ensure the Volta Region receives its deserved share of national development, addressing decades of perceived neglect.
Speaking in Ho on January 24, 2025, during his “Thank You Tour,” the President extended his heartfelt gratitude to the people of the region for their unwavering support, which he credited as pivotal to his decisive electoral victory in 2024.

“The Volta Region has always stood tall as a cornerstone of our nation’s democratic journey. Since 1992, your loyalty and dedication to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been unmatched, and this has played a vital role in shaping Ghana’s history and governance,” he remarked.
He further highlighted the region’s consistent support for the NDC, describing it as a “beacon of hope and strength” for the party. “Your immense contribution to the success of our party and my presidency cannot be overstated. The bond between the Volta Region and the NDC is deeply rooted in shared values and a collective vision for Ghana’s future,” he added.
While celebrating the region’s contributions, President Mahama acknowledged the challenges faced by the Volta Region due to years of inadequate attention and investment, which he attributed to political biases in the past.
“We are aware of the years of neglect and alienation you have endured simply because of your political choices. This is unacceptable in a democracy, where development must be shared equitably, regardless of political affiliations,” he said.
The President assured the people of the Volta Region that his administration is committed to rectifying these imbalances. “This narrative of neglect ends now. I am here to assure you that my government will prioritise the development of the Volta Region as a matter of urgency. You deserve nothing less,” he promised.
President Mahama outlined a comprehensive vision for the region, focused on infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and job creation. Key areas of focus will include:
- Infrastructure: Expanding road networks, improving access to electricity, and developing water supply systems.
- Education: Upgrading schools and providing scholarships for students from underserved communities.
- Healthcare: Building new health facilities and enhancing existing ones to improve access to quality medical care.
- Economic Empowerment: Promoting local industries, supporting farmers and fishers, and creating employment opportunities for the youth.
“My government is committed to building a resilient Volta Region that thrives on innovation, equity, and inclusivity. We will work together to unlock the vast potential of this region, ensuring that every community benefits from national progress,” the President assured.
The President’s remarks were met with enthusiasm and optimism from the people of the Volta Region, many of whom expressed hope that his leadership would bring the much-needed change they have long awaited.
A resident from Ho, Madam Dzifa Akosua, shared her thoughts: “President Mahama has always shown us that he values the Volta Region. His words give us hope, and we believe he will fulfil his promises.”
