The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is currently investigating the cause of a fire that engulfed a scrap yard at Ashaiman Middle East on Monday, December 30, 2024.
The blaze, which broke out in the afternoon, destroyed about 17 metal containers and their contents.
Divisional Officer (DO) Grade II Ebenezer Yenzu, the Public Relations Officer for the GNFS in the Tema Region, confirmed to journalists at the scene that a team of fire service personnel from seven different fire stations was swiftly deployed to control the fire. Thankfully, no casualties were reported in the incident.
DO II Yenzu pointed to the prevailing dry weather conditions as a possible factor contributing to the rapid spread of the fire. He called on the public to take necessary precautions to prevent such incidents in the future.
Additionally, he urged community members to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation into the cause of the fire.
The investigation is ongoing as fire safety authorities work to identify the factors behind the blaze and enhance safety measures in the area.
