The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, has voiced her astonishment at the unruly behaviour exhibited by some Members of Parliament (MPs) during the vetting proceedings on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
Appearing before the committee investigating the disruptions, Arthur provided a vivid account of the disorderly scenes she witnessed, condemning the actions of certain MPs while lauding the professionalism of the committee clerk.
“I was amazed to see a whole MP carrying a chair and putting it on the table. The next time, I saw them pushing tables away. I saw microphones being shifted away,” she recounted on Friday, February 7.

Arthur emphasised the importance of maintaining decorum in such proceedings and urged for measures to be put in place to prevent similar disturbances in the future.
“In all of that, what amazed me was the calmness of the clerk. She was so calm, just sitting down, so very professional. I mean, she has class,” she added.
The minister’s remarks have reignited conversations about the conduct of lawmakers during official proceedings, with many calling for stricter regulations to ensure order and professionalism in parliamentary engagements.
