Three dead, 23 injured near Aggrey Memorial School in Cape Coast

A devastating road accident on Friday morning claimed the lives of three passengers and left 23 others injured when a bus travelling from Takoradi to Accra overturned near the Aggrey Memorial School intersection in Cape Coast.

The bus, registered as GW 6231-21, was carrying 53 passengers when it fell on its side at approximately 6:48 a.m. Some passengers were trapped inside, requiring a coordinated rescue operation by emergency services.

Abdul Wasiu Hudu, Public Relations Officer for the Central Regional Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), detailed the response efforts.

“With the collaborative efforts of officers from the GNFS, police personnel, and ambulance services, most of the passengers were rescued and transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the University of Cape Coast Hospital for medical care,” he said.

Despite the swift intervention, three passengers were pronounced dead at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

Meanwhile, 23 others are undergoing treatment for various injuries. Nine passengers with minor injuries were treated and discharged.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, which has sent shockwaves through the community.
