President-elect John Dramani Mahama has urged supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to intensify their prayers as the party prepares to form the next government.
He stressed that greater spiritual commitment is needed to navigate the challenges inherited from the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
Speaking at a gathering of party faithful, Mr. Mahama highlighted the importance of seeking divine guidance to implement policies aimed at improving the lives of all Ghanaians.
“This is the time we need to engage in more fervent prayers than we did during the campaign,” he said. “We must pray for God to grant us the strength and wisdom to make Ghana a better place to live. All I will say is that it is finished; God has already done it.”
Mr. Mahama accused the outgoing government of leaving behind significant debts, particularly in the energy and education sectors. He described these financial burdens as deliberate obstacles meant to undermine his administration’s success.
“The NPP government has set a trap for us, but we shall not be caught in it,” he stated. “The Almighty God, who granted us electoral victory, will see us through the difficulties ahead. With divine guidance, we will overcome these challenges and build a better Ghana for future generations.”
Addressing specific challenges, Mr. Mahama pointed to the delayed disbursement of funds to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) as an example of the fiscal issues his government will need to resolve. Referencing public criticism, including a Facebook post condemning the postponement of WAEC activities, he reaffirmed his commitment to prioritising the education sector.
The president-elect called on party members to remain united and steadfast in their efforts to support his administration.
“With God’s help, we will transform this country, address the pressing challenges, and ensure a brighter future for all Ghanaians,” he said.
As Mr. Mahama prepares to take office on January 7, 2025, his call for intensified prayer reflects his belief in the power of faith and collective action to overcome the difficulties that lie ahead.
