“Tensions escalate in Parliament after verbal clash between minority whip and Petroleum Commission CEO”
A heated exchange erupted between Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh Dompreh and the acting CEO of the Petroleum Commission, Emeafa Hardcastle, during a break in the Parliamentary Appointments Committee proceedings on Tuesday, January 28.
The confrontation, which reportedly started over a comment made by Hardcastle about the New Patriotic Party (NPP) being a ‘micro-minority,’ escalated quickly, drawing attention from those present.
The incident occurred during a brief recess while the committee deliberated on allegations of bribery within the Appointments Committee. As tensions rose, Hardcastle and Annoh Dompreh had a fiery verbal exchange, with Hardcastle dismissing Annoh Dompreh’s complaints and even questioning his authority, saying, “You called us a micro-minority.”
The exchange turned more intense with Annoh Dompreh accusing Hardcastle of disrespect, to which Hardcastle responded defiantly, “But you’re a micro-minority. Doesn’t Afenyo himself use that phrase ? Don’t bring yourself. “Do you think you can bully me here ?”
The situation drew further attention as Annoh Dompreh continued to voice his grievances on the parliamentary floor, urging that Emeafa Hardcastle be summoned before the Privileges Committee.
The controversy surrounding the clash reflects ongoing political tensions, which have been heightened by the allegations of corruption and misconduct involving committee members.
This incident underscores the charged atmosphere in Ghana’s parliament, where sharp exchanges have become a feature of ongoing legislative deliberations.
