The prosecutor in the ongoing teenage gold theft case has revealed that police suspect a larger criminal syndicate may be involved in the crime, with multiple accomplices yet to be identified.
Chief Inspector Gilbert Abagna Anyongo made this disclosure in court, appealing for more time to conduct further investigations into the case.
Additionally, he stated that the police were working to verify the true ages of the two teenage suspects, as there were doubts regarding their claims.

The Assin Fosu District Court remanded the two teenagers into juvenile cells after they appeared before the court today. The case, presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, has been adjourned to March 5, 2025.
The two were arrested for allegedly stealing gold and GH¢41,000 from a gold shop at Twifo Praso in the Twifo Ati Morkwa District of the Central Region.
Chief Inspector Anyongo informed the court that the girl initially claimed she was 15 years old but later revised her age to 17 years. Police also suspect that the boy may be older than he claims.
Investigations suggest the suspects had been monitoring the gold shop’s activities for some time before executing their plan.
CCTV footage reportedly captured the girl stealing from the shop before allegedly distributing the stolen money among her accomplices, including her boyfriend.
The two were arrested on Sunday, February 16, 2025, by the Twifo Praso District Police Command, led by Superintendent Charles Addae Boateng.
- The girl was arrested at her hideout in Egyaa near Anomabo in the Mfantseman Municipality.
- The boy was apprehended separately following a tip-off.
Police are still pursuing other accomplices and have urged the public to provide any information that could aid in their arrest.
