The Supreme Court has annulled the recollated parliamentary election results for Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South, overturning the Electoral Commission’s (EC) declarations for these constituencies.
This landmark ruling, delivered in Accra on Friday by Justice Gabriel Pwamang, follows intense legal and political disputes surrounding the recollation process.
Justice Pwamang stated, “We hereby quash the orders of mandamus made for collation of results by the EC in the following constituencies: Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South.”
The court, however, upheld the recollated results for Nsawam Adoagyiri and Ahafo Ano South West, leaving them unaffected by the judgement.
The decision stems from a legal challenge by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against a controversial December 20 High Court order that directed the EC to recollate results in nine disputed constituencies.
The NDC argued that the High Court exceeded its jurisdiction and undermined the transparency and integrity of the electoral process.
So far, the EC has implemented the directive in seven constituencies, all won by New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates. However, the results for Dome/Kwabenya and Ablekuma North remain unresolved.
This ruling underscores the judiciary’s critical role in addressing electoral irregularities and ensuring adherence to constitutional and procedural requirements.
The decision is expected to carry significant political implications as stakeholders and constituents await further developments.
