Starlink to Increase Subscription Prices in Nigeria Starting January 2025

Starlink, the satellite internet provider, has informed its Nigerian customers of an impending hike in monthly subscription prices, set to take effect on January 27, 2025.

New customers will immediately pay the updated rates, while existing users will experience the changes in their upcoming billing cycles.

In a statement sent via email, Starlink explained, “To continue enhancing the Starlink network and provide reliable, high-quality service across Nigeria, we are adjusting our monthly subscription prices. These changes are part of our ongoing commitment to investing in the infrastructure needed to improve your experience with Starlink.”

The new pricing structure sees the lowest subscription tier increasing from $48 to $95 per month. Meanwhile, the mobile global roaming service will now cost $910 monthly.

This is the second attempt by Starlink to raise prices in Nigeria. Previously, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) blocked a similar move in October, citing the company’s failure to secure regulatory approval.

Nigerian telecom operators have long sought approval for tariff increases but have faced challenges in gaining consent from the NCC.

Reports indicate that the NCC is preparing to approve tariff adjustments in the first quarter of 2025, as first reported by TechCabal. Starlink’s price adjustments appear to align with this anticipated regulatory shift.

The announcement marks a significant development in Nigeria’s internet market, hinting at potential shifts in pricing strategies among satellite and telecommunications providers.

While the move may enhance service quality through greater infrastructure investments, it also raises concerns about affordability for consumers. Starlink’s actions could set a precedent for other providers in the competitive landscape.
