The Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu, John Abdulai Jinapor, has identified power supply as the most pressing challenge for the incoming John Dramani Mahama administration.
He has urged the next government to prioritise resolving Ghana’s persistent energy issues.
In a Facebook post on December 29, 2024, Jinapor highlighted the critical state of the country’s electricity supply, pointing to the ongoing struggles of the outgoing government to maintain consistent power and meet financial obligations to power providers.
“Parts of Ghana are currently experiencing load shedding from GRIDCo. The first challenge for the next government will be to stabilise power (electricity) supply as soon as possible,” the MP wrote.
Jinapor warned that failing to address the energy crisis swiftly could undermine public confidence in the Mahama administration.
He stressed the importance of consistent electricity to support economic activities and improve living conditions for Ghanaians.
“Stabilising power supply is not just about keeping the lights on; it’s about restoring trust in governance and ensuring the economy can thrive,” he added.
The MP’s comments come amid growing unease among Ghanaians about the possibility of a return to widespread power outages, commonly known as dumsor. These outages have historically disrupted daily life and economic activities, leaving many wary of their recurrence.
