Former Finance Minister Seth Terkper has lauded Finance Minister Designate Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson and Energy Minister Designate John Abdulai Jinapor for their outstanding performance during their vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 13, 2025.
Terkper, who supervised both nominees during his tenure, expressed pride in their development and dedication to public service, attributing their current success to their diligence and professionalism.
In an interview with Vivian Kai Lokko on Channel One TV, Terkper remarked on the personal significance of the moment, emphasising the growth of his former deputies:
“I was proud of the two gentlemen because Honourable Jinapor also mentioned that at a point when I was supervising minister for power, he was my deputy. So this is a day in which one couldn’t be less gratified with what was going on,” he said.
Dr. Forson also acknowledged Terkper’s influence during his vetting, noting that he would draw inspiration from some of Terkper’s policies if confirmed as finance minister.
Terkper praised the nominees’ substantial contributions to parliamentary debates and reforms, particularly highlighting Forson’s extensive tenure as the ranking member on the Finance Committee.
He also credited Jinapor for his notable achievements in the energy sector during his time as Deputy Power Minister.
“These are subordinates who have risen as a result of taking the work in Parliament seriously, and they deserve the credit for what happened today,” Terkper stated.
While appreciative of the nominees’ recognition of his mentorship, Terkper was quick to redirect the focus to their individual achievements.
“The compliments notwithstanding, that is not to take anything away from them… They deserve the credit for what happened today,” he added, highlighting their commitment to national service.
