Kwabena Baidoo, a former player for Sekondi Hasaacas FC, has tragically passed away in a motor accident while celebrating the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) victory in the 2024 general elections.
The fatal incident occurred on Monday, December 9, in the Ellembelle District. Reports indicate that Baidoo was jubilating with other supporters when the accident happened, claiming his life.
His brother, Emmanuel Quarm, confirmed the devastating news, expressing the profound loss the family is enduring. “We are shattered by this tragedy,” Quarm said.
Sekondi Hasaacas FC, where Baidoo once showcased his football talent, has yet to issue an official statement on his untimely death.
Baidoo’s death casts a shadow over nationwide celebrations by NDC supporters, who took to the streets after New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat to John Dramani Mahama.
In the closely watched election, Mahama emerged victorious with 6,328,397 votes (56.55%) compared to Bawumia’s 4,657,304 votes (41.61%). The results were officially declared on Monday by the Electoral Commission.
Baidoo will be remembered for his contributions to Ghanaian football and the joy he brought to the game. His tragic passing has left a community mourning during what was meant to be a time of celebration.
