In a unique and heartfelt ceremony, the Wenchi West District of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church, located in the Bono Region, honoured 20 young girls for their commitment to maintaining their virginity.
The awards, presented by the Young Adventist Women Ministries, celebrated the moral integrity of girls aged 13 to 16, reinforcing the values of Christian principles and Ghanaian cultural traditions.
The event, held recently, saw the girls receiving accolades for their discipline and dedication to upholding purity.
Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, the coordinator of the Young Adventist Women Ministries, explained that the initiative was part of a broader effort to nurture the holistic well-being of young women.
“Our goal is to empower young girls to embrace their unique identity, instilling self-confidence and encouraging wise decision-making in their relationships and activities,” Mrs. Poku said.
She further likened the ceremony to traditional rites of passage such as Bragoro and Dipo, cultural practices that have long prepared adolescent girls for societal and marital responsibilities.
She highlighted that the modernised Christian approach focuses on presenting the girls before God for blessings and guidance.
Pastor Andrews Dua Bour Kyereh, Associate Pastor of the Wenchi West District, commended the honourees for their discipline, urging them to prioritise their education and remain steadfast in their faith.
He also encouraged other young girls within the church and the broader community to look up to these exemplary youths as role models.
Pastor Kyereh placed particular emphasis on the role of parents in the upbringing of their children. He urged them to be active participants in instilling discipline and guiding their children toward virtuous living.
Some of the awardees expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the church leaders’ guidance, acknowledging their support in helping them uphold strong moral values.
