The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, has filed a GH¢10 million defamation lawsuit against popular Ghanaian media personality Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, widely known as Afia Schwarzenegger, over comments she made on her TikTok platform alleging extramarital affairs and lavish gifts to young women.
According to court documents obtained by Puretvonline, the lawsuit stems from a video posted by Afia Schwarzenegger on her TikTok account ‘Queen Afia Kande Schwar @queen schwar’, which has a following of over 526,500 users. In the video, she alleged that Mr Gyamfi was involved in romantic relationships with students at the University of Ghana and that he had purchased vehicles for some of them.
Speaking in Twi, Afia Schwarzenegger claimed to have firsthand information implicating Mr Gyamfi in inappropriate relationships. She said:

“Tell Sammy Gyamfi’s wife that I am greeting her. Her husband is still buying cars for girls in Legon. I am holding the list… I am going to call my informant. That’s Sammy Gyamfi’s girl; I have forgotten her name. Send it to me again and add all the items on the list… Tell Sammy Gyamfi’s wife that her husband is doing a lot of work at Legon.”
She further alleged that a woman named Vida, purported to be the younger sister of Mr Gyamfi’s wife, had recently bought a house in the United States, hinting that the property may have been funded through Mr Gyamfi’s resources.
In his statement of claim, Sammy Gyamfi categorically denied all allegations made in the video. He stated that he:
- Has no girlfriend(s) at the University of Ghana or elsewhere;
- Has not purchased any vehicle for any such individual;
- Has never bought a house in the United States for anyone;
- Does not know of any “Vida” who is related to his wife.
He contends that the statements were malicious, false, and deliberately crafted to damage his reputation, credibility, and personal relationships.
“The defamatory comments have injured my reputation and exposed me to public ridicule and contempt,” his lawyers noted in the writ filed at the High Court.
Sammy Gyamfi is seeking the following reliefs from the court:
- GH¢10 million in exemplary damages for defamation of character;
- A perpetual injunction restraining Afia Schwarzenegger from making any further defamatory remarks about him;
- A public retraction and unqualified apology to be published:
- On the front and back pages of the Daily Graphic for three consecutive editions;
- On TikTok and any other media platforms where the original content was shared;
- With the same level of prominence as the original defamatory statements;
- Legal costs, including counsel’s fees, and any other orders the court may deem appropriate.
The case has sparked widespread public interest, not only due to the high-profile individuals involved but also because of its potential implications for online speech and accountability. Afia Schwarzenegger, known for her unfiltered commentary on social media, has previously faced legal challenges over public statements targeting political figures and celebrities.
Sammy Gyamfi, a trained lawyer and a known political figure, currently serves as the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, a key institution overseeing aspects of Ghana’s mineral wealth and gold trading frameworks.
The defendant, Afia Schwarzenegger, has not yet responded formally to the suit at the time of publication.
