The Krontihene of Akyem Asoum, Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III, has claimed that Samira Bawumia, wife of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is profoundly disappointed following her husband’s defeat to John Dramani Mahama in the recent presidential election.
Speaking in a recent interview, Nana Boadi asserted that Samira was heavily invested in her husband’s bid for the presidency, envisioning herself as Ghana’s next First Lady.
“Dr. Bawumia is not happy; he did his best and was desperate for the position,” Nana Boadi stated. “But somebody else was even more unhappy—Samira. She was so desperate for the position.”
The traditional leader highlighted Samira Bawumia’s prominent role in the NPP’s campaign, often taking centre stage at events.
He attributed this to her charisma, style, and ambition to occupy the First Lady’s position.
“You know, our good old Auntie Rebecca [Akufo-Addo], she was not that outgoing, and so Samira was mostly at the forefront. She longed to be the First Lady,” Nana Boadi remarked.
He humorously added, “If the NPP had won, she would have slayed a lot. ‘She will slay Ghanaian ladies; all go, bore, and die.’”
Nana Boadi noted that Samira’s visible disappointment mirrors the broader sentiment within the Bawumia household after the election.
“She is very unhappy,” he reiterated, describing the loss as a personal blow to Samira, who had poured significant energy into her husband’s campaign.
While Dr. Bawumia and his supporters process the defeat, Nana Boadi’s comments shed light on the emotional toll the election has taken on those closest to the NPP flagbearer.
