The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, is today leading the entire Cabinet of President John Mahama’s government into a historic two-day residential AI bootcamp aimed at equipping government ministries with the knowledge and tools to leverage artificial intelligence for faster and more efficient results.
The initiative, described by the minister as unprecedented in Africa—if not the world—was made possible with the approval of President Mahama and is part of broader government efforts to align public institutions with the ongoing digital revolution.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the launch of the Google AI Community Centre in Accra, Sam George stressed the importance of the government catching up with private sector momentum in AI development.

“President John Mahama has granted me permission to take the entire Cabinet and their AI focal persons on a two-day AI bootcamp, which is something that has never happened anywhere in Africa, if not the world,” the minister declared.
Sam George explained that his ministry, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and academic institutions, has developed tailored AI use cases for every ministry, which will be used as the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the respective ministries beginning in 2026.
To support implementation, AI focal persons have been trained across all ministries, forming the technical base for AI integration and benchmarking across government.
“The bootcamp will allow Cabinet members to get a better appreciation of how AI can help them meet their goals more efficiently. It’s no longer just theory—each ministry has real use cases to work with,” he said.
According to the minister, a communiqué will be issued at the end of the bootcamp and presented to the Ministry of Finance, outlining the specific AI infrastructure needs of each ministry. This document will form the basis for budgetary allocations in 2026, enabling ministries to roll out AI-powered strategies effectively.
“We are not just training people—we are matching that training with the infrastructure and policy support needed to make AI real across government,” he said.
To ensure ministries have the technical capacity to implement AI initiatives, Sam George noted that the government is relying on the One Million Coders Program to provide the needed human capital.
Through this program, thousands of civil and public servants across various ministries are being trained in AI and other digital skills, forming a digitally literate public workforce ready to drive transformation.
