President-elect John Dramani Mahama has named Prosper Bani, Kofi Totobi Quakyi, and COP Nathaniel Kofi Boakye (Rtd.) as key members of a six-person interim national security team to oversee the country’s security operations during the transition period.
The team, announced in a statement by Mr. Mahama’s special aide, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, is tasked with ensuring the continuity of national security measures while the new administration finalises substantive appointments. The team’s operations will commence on Tuesday, 7th January 2025.
- Prosper Douglas Bani—former Minister for the Interior, who will serve as the team’s leader, leveraging his extensive experience in governance and security oversight.
- Kofi Totobi Quakyi – Former Minister for National Security, known for his strategic leadership and deep knowledge of Ghana’s security landscape.
- COP Nathaniel Kofi Boakye (Rtd.) – Retired senior police officer, celebrated for his contributions to law enforcement and public safety in Ghana.
The team also includes other seasoned professionals with rich experience in national security:
- Lt. General Peter Augustine Blay (Rtd.) – Former Chief of Defence Staff, recognised for his military expertise.
- Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, Esq. – Former National Security Coordinator, a seasoned operative with a strong legal and security background.
- Brigadier General Fuseini Iddrissu (Rtd.) – Retired senior military officer with a stellar service record.
This high-profile team will oversee critical national security operations, ensuring stability and effective coordination during the transition period. The appointments reflect the president-elect’s focus on a smooth handover and the safeguarding of Ghana’s democratic and institutional integrity.
