Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has concluded a visit to Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto, during which he expressed gratitude for Kenya’s support over the years and extended an invitation to President Ruto to attend his upcoming inauguration on January 7, 2024.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), President Mahama described his visit as an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on regional integration, continental security, and the potential to enhance the benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Mahama, who has previously chaired the African Union’s High-Level Committee on Trade, emphasised his continued commitment to expanding trade between African countries under the AfCFTA framework.
“It was a great opportunity to discuss our regional integration efforts, continental security, and how we can work collectively to upscale the benefits of the AfCFTA,” Mahama said.
He also reiterated the importance of strengthening relations between Ghana and Kenya, two prominent nations on the African continent.
The visit underscores the growing diplomatic ties between Ghana and Kenya, with both leaders aiming to foster stronger cooperation in trade, security, and broader continental development initiatives.
As a former chair of the AU High-Level Committee on Trade, Mahama expressed his ongoing dedication to expanding intra-African trade and improving economic opportunities across the continent. The discussions with President Ruto are seen as part of efforts to leverage the AfCFTA’s potential for greater regional collaboration and economic growth.
