President Mahama Resumes Use of Ghana’s Official Presidential Jet

President John Dramani Mahama has returned to using Ghana’s official presidential jet, arriving in Nairobi, Kenya, to attend a high-level African Union (AU) meeting on institutional reforms.

This move signifies a shift from his recent reliance on a private jet owned by his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, for official travels—an arrangement that had sparked debates about cost implications and potential conflicts of interest.

Presidential spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu clarified that the use of Ibrahim Mahama’s jet incurred no expense to the Ghanaian taxpayer, explaining that it was a temporary measure during an ongoing review of the official jet by the Communications Squadron of the Ghana Air Force.

The decision to revert to the state-owned jet comes amid public scrutiny and parliamentary discussions over the President’s travel arrangements. Members of the Minority Caucus had urged President Mahama to utilise the presidential jet, highlighting the importance of adhering to protocols and ensuring transparency in official travel.

This development is seen as a step toward addressing public concerns and reinforcing the President’s commitment to aligning with national expectations during his international engagements.
