President Mahama Arrives in Nairobi for AU Reforms Retreat

President John Dramani Mahama arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, on Saturday, January 26, aboard Ghana’s presidential jet to attend a high-level African Union (AU) institutional reforms retreat.

The retreat brings together African leaders to deliberate on and advance key reforms aimed at enhancing the AU’s capacity to address the continent’s pressing challenges, including economic development, security, and governance.

President Mahama’s participation highlights Ghana’s active role in shaping continental policies and promoting unity and self-reliance among African nations.

Notably, his use of the presidential jet for this official trip comes amidst previous public criticism over his reliance on his brother’s private jet for some domestic and international engagements.

The decision to opt for the presidential jet reflects responsiveness to public concerns over transparency and the appropriateness of travel arrangements for the nation’s leader.

The retreat is expected to outline actionable steps for improving the AU’s operational efficiency and its capacity to deliver tangible benefits to member states and their citizens.
