President Biden Dispatches High-Level Delegation to Mahama’s Inauguration

U.S. President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. has announced a distinguished delegation to attend the inauguration of Ghana’s President-Elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.

The ceremony, set for January 7, 2025, in Accra, will mark Mahama’s return to power after a hard-fought electoral victory.

Leading the delegation is The Honourable Shalanda D. Young, Director of the United States Office of Management and Budget. Young’s leadership in the delegation reflects the importance the Biden administration places on Ghana as a strategic partner in West Africa.

  • The Honourable Virginia E. Palmer, U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, whose tenure has seen enhanced cooperation between the two nations in areas such as trade, security, and health.
  • The Honourable Karen Bass, Mayor of Los Angeles, a prominent advocate for African-American relations with Africa, highlighting the socio-cultural connections between the U.S. and the continent.
  • The Honourable Frances Z. Brown, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for African Affairs on the National Security Council, signifying Washington’s dedication to deepening ties with African nations.

This high-level U.S. presence underscores the strong bilateral relationship between the United States and Ghana and Washington’s continued commitment to supporting democratic governance in Africa.
