President Akufo-Addo to Chair National Honours and Awards Ceremony Today

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will preside over a National Honours and Awards ceremony today, Monday, December 30, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

This event marks one of his final official duties as president, as he prepares to leave office, and aims to celebrate individuals who have made exceptional contributions to Ghana’s development and progress.

The ceremony, scheduled to commence at 11:00 a.m., will see nominees seated in formal or traditional attire, reflecting Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

Suggested dress codes include Kente, Fugu, or suits, underscoring the formal and celebratory nature of the event. Nominees are also allowed to bring up to two family members to witness the occasion, making it a memorable milestone for all attendees.

A letter signed by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, outlined the arrangements for the event, while personal invitation cards bearing the President’s signature have been sent to the honourees.

The National Honours and Awards ceremony serves as a platform to recognise and reward individuals whose dedication and outstanding achievements have had a significant impact on Ghana.

It highlights the value of national service and the importance of striving for excellence in various fields.

The event will confer five distinct honours on deserving individuals, each symbolising unique contributions to the nation:

  1. Order of the Star and Eagles of Ghana
    • Reserved for individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary achievement and leadership in service to Ghana.
  2. Order of the Star of Ghana
    • Awarded to those who have made significant contributions to the nation in areas such as governance, development, or international diplomacy.
  3. Order of the Volta
    • Recognises individuals who have excelled in fields such as education, health, science, or other sectors critical to national development.
  4. The Medal for Gallantry
    • Honouring acts of bravery and heroism that have positively impacted the nation or its citizens.
  5. The Grand Medal
    • Celebrating individuals whose dedicated service has significantly contributed to the social, cultural, or economic fabric of Ghana.

As President Akufo-Addo prepares to bow out of office, the ceremony is expected to serve as a poignant reminder of the values of excellence, service, and patriotism that he has championed during his tenure.
