The Ghana Police Service has successfully restored order in Ejura, Ashanti Region, following a violent mob attack on the Ejura Police Station in the early hours of Saturday, January 11, 2025.
The incident occurred after the death of a suspect in police custody sparked protests and unrest in the community.
The situation began on the evening of Friday, January 10, 2025, around 10:00 pm, when the police arrested a suspect, identified as a male, for alleged theft.

The suspect was detained at the Ejura Police Station pending further investigation.
At approximately 2:20 am on Saturday, the suspect complained of feeling unwell. In response, the police promptly took him to the Ejura Government Hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, despite efforts to treat him, the suspect passed away while under care at the hospital.
The death of the suspect caused widespread outrage among members of the Ejura community. As preparations were made to transfer the deceased’s body to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy, an angry mob gathered and launched an attack on the Ejura Police Station. They set parts of the police station ablaze, causing significant damage to the facility.
Meanwhile, a faction of the mob stormed the Ejura Government Hospital, forcibly taking the deceased’s body, escalating tensions in the area.
In response to the chaos, the police immediately engaged with local opinion leaders and community elders in a bid to calm the situation. Their efforts helped to prevent further violence, and order was gradually restored. Fortunately, no casualties were reported from the mob attack.
To further ensure stability, the Ghana Armed Forces were deployed to assist the police in maintaining law and order. Additionally, the Ghana National Fire Service was called in to extinguish the flames at the police station.
The Ghana Police Service has since assured the public that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the attack.
Authorities have also vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The police further emphasised their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the community, urging the public to remain calm while investigations continue.
